How to read the Data Visualization

The data visualization shows the State scores for each dimension or indicator of the State Just Jobs Index. The Index consists of five dimensions—employment, formality, benefits, income equality, and gender equality. Each dimension is based on a set of three indicators. A score ranging from 0-100 is assigned for each dimension and each indicator, by State. A State’s performance (relative to other States) goes up as its score approaches 100.

To enable comparison of scores across dimensions and indicators, two normalization techniques were used - standardized z-scores and min-max rescale. Based on these techniques, a set of 2 scores were created for each dimension and indicator--a Z-score, and a Rescaled score (for more information, see Normalization).
